Valentine's Day Cards/Jars

What you will need: baby food jar, hot glue gun, popsicle sticks (I used the smaller ones, you can find these at Wal-Mart or Michaels) burlap fabric, a heart cut out, scissors, card stock & puff ball.

What I did was hot glued the puff balls to the lid of the jar & set aside to dry.
Then I found a cut out of a heart & glued it to popsicle stick. I measured the outside of the jar & cut card stock leaving enough room that when you put into the jar you will be able to see the heart & puff inside. It's very important that you use card stock for the back of the jar because it's durable enough to cling to the back without using any adhesive.I tried construction paper & it just slipped right off. Once card stock is cut place in the inside of the jar. I cut alittle off the popsicle stick to the desired height & glued to the center of the puffs on the lids.

Once that dried, I put the lid on tightly.

Then I hot glued the burlap fabric around the rim of the lid.

TA-DAH!

Bird Themed Baby Shower

My friend Genita, had her baby! A little girl. She has four kids now, wowza. She was telling me when she first found out she was pregnant "You won't believe this but, I have never had a baby shower." When she told me this I was dumb founded & I told her immediately "I need to through you a baby shower!" Here are some pictures of the decorations that I had made for the shower. The baby shower was back in August & the theme that I had done for this was birds.

(Above) This is a picture of the invitations that I had made. I had found the paper laying around that I had stuck away for later use, was glad I saved it. Along with the invitations, I had just tied the silverware around in napkins with hemp twine.

(Above) I used old jars that I had been saving for a rainy day for the center pieces. I filled them up with crumpled brown paper, stuck branches that I had found outside & spray painted white, & top them off with fake grass. I think they turned out pretty cute eh? I cut out little birds & sayings or words that describe being pregnant/babies & hung them from the branches.

I had seen this really great idea somewhere, (scratches head & thinks), I really can't remember where.(sorry) But they had this really neat idea of writing messages to baby, mommy to be & hang on tree. I just used the same paper as invitations & stamped the tops with a bird.

I wish that I had a picture of the food table & cup cakes but can't seem to find those.

This was really alot of fun for me & all the decorations were made not boughten. Gotta love that!

Old Jar + Puff Paint + Spray Paint = Art Piece

I have been saving/collecting glass jars, vases & wine bottles.I have been wanting to do a display of some of the collection on the top of my china hutch but couldn't think of a way to make them pop. So after doing some thinking & wondering around the Internet, came up with this idea. You are going to love it! I know I do. This is so easy & fun to do. Be creative with this!

All you will need is puff-paint, a clean jar & spray paint of your choice

Make your design & then let dry for approximately 2 hours.

Once the puff-paint has dried, double check to make sure completely dry.

Then make sure that you are in a well ventilated area & spray away. Let dry, then display where you desire.I haven't gotten all of mine done but will post pictures of them once completed.

My new obsession is succulent gardens, I have been wanting to do a hanging one some where in my house & then place outdoors when it's nicer out. I found this amazing website with a variety of different kinds & even DIY's, give it a gander: http://www.lushe.com.au/. I would recommend this idea to someone who is notorious for killing off plants, it's seems like it would be very low maintenance, but also depends on the types of plants you choose. Great for small yards or spaces!

Coat Rack Ideas

So... I am in desperate need of a coat rack in my house when you walk in my front door. I tried getting those self adhesive hocks, but those dang things don't work. When people come over they hang their coats on them & it just falls off the wall. Ugh, so frustrating & cheap. I have made a coat rack at my back door with picket fencing, that I had left over when we redid our fencing & forks bent to make hocks! Turned out really neat. (post on this to come) But I am not wanting to do the same thing in my living room when you walk in the front door. I think that the forks go along with the decor, because when you walk in my back door your in the kitchen. So I found this really neat website that has many ideas for coat racks (http://www.tipjunkie.com/)& I need your help. These coat racks are numbered, so just leave a comment letting me know which one you enjoy & why. Alittle information about my living room, it kind of an electic style, a mix of modern & classic. Color scheme is brown, yellow, grey & gold. I really want this to be a coat rack to hang on the wall.

Man, I loves all of these (above), there is something special about every single one of these. Number 9, made out of an old window, what?, what a great idea. Number 10 looks like it's made out of an old dresser drawer. Number 11, an old paddle & 12, wow, love, that's all I am going to say!

In this group (above), I really enjoy number 1. The yellow floral pattern could be wallpaper or maybe even fabric. I like how the hooks are hung symetrically.

I did one search & I found all of these on one website. I love all of them, that's why I need your help. Please leave suggestions or thoughts on what you think. Please! Haha. Thanks to all.

Toilet Paper Stand

So.. I have been re-doing my basement bathroom. We barely have any counter space, it drives me nuts. In a previous post I made the cotton ball & q-tips stands for the same bathroom. I have been wanting a toilet paper stand so badly. (Wierd I know) I looked around at Walmart, Target, Kohls, Gordmans, basically everywhere. The prices ranged from 10.00 to 20.00.(What?) I didn't want to spend that kind of money on something that holds toilet paper.(Please.) So I took a trip to Goodwill in search of something that I could make into a stand.It was my lucky day because I just found a paper towel stand. I was really nervous that this wouldn't hold many rolls, but it actually holds three, which is plenty enough. I got this paper towel holder for only 99 cents, can you believe it? 99 cents! I bet some of you are asking, "why don't you just put the dang toilet paper under the sink?" Well.... I think that having a stand gives everyone, expecially your guest easy access in case the roll runs out. When I got the stand home, I sanded it down because there was a sealant of some sort on it & I wanted to make sure that the spray paint would adhere to it. Couple of coats of black spray paint & BAM. Completed! Easy enough? I love the way it looks with the other holders I made. Short but sweet post, til next time friends!

Craft Night with my Honey

Lastnight I came home from work & showed Kyle, my boyfriend, the Valentine's Day things that I had been making that day. He really thought they were neat, after seeing them it struck a creative spark in Kyle. So we started crafting together. I love when these nights or days happen so I decided that I would post pictures & show you all.I have been on a kick/fascination with doing projects with jars. The Valentine's that I am making are out of baby food jars. (Post on this to come). So Kyle wanted to make one of his own, not inspired by any Holiday but by things that represent him. (Also post on this to come; whispers: his isn't done yet)

While on my many internet searches for inspiration, I came accross this post, where a blogger had used jars as picture frames. I thought that this was such a great way to recycle old jars. This is what I ended up with lastnight, you can probably figured out what the steps are by just looking at the picture but I am going to give them to you anyways haha:

1.)What you will need is a jar with a lid, the size is completely up to you. Make sure that the jar is cleaned well & completely dried out before starting project.

2.)Next I went on a search for two pictures. Couple things to keep in mind: make sure that the pictures will fit into the jar & are large enough that when you bend pictures they fit in along the sides. If pictures aren't big enough they won't adhere, to the side of the jar naturally & fall to the bottom. If this happen you will probably need to use some kind of adhesive.

3.)I started looking around the house for things that I wanted incorporate with the picture & the jar. My intial idea was to make kind of a snow globe & but some fake grass in the bottom, etc etc. Sounded great at the time but it wasn't turning out great. Our faces were distorted & just didn't look good. You can see what I mean in the second picture.
So I decided to put the pictures on the inside of the jar facing outwards, bending pictures very little to get them into the jar & placing as desired.
I found some burlap laying around that wasn't being used so I thought that this would be a nice effect & also will hide the pasta shells around the top & bottom of the jar. Then I had a wooden dowel from a previous project that I used kind of as a handle.

4.) Now that I have all my supplies, I was ready to warm-up the ole hot glue gun & get constructing.

5.) The jar that I had picked out really helped with gluing the burlap, it had a fine line around the rim that I just lined with glue & stuck the burlap to. Then I just took some left over burlap & glued it to the top of the jar, which was the bottom, once that dried I adhered the wooden dowel.

6.) Finished product, the nice thing about this project, is that you can use this like a frame & switch out pictures. (OHHHH, switch them out for the seasons! That would be so awesome!)

After all said & done, I came up with the conclusion that I really didn't need to turn the jar upside down, I could have just left the jar right side up. Some things that I would like to do in the future is use buttons, glue many jars together to make a collage, do a larger jar, etc.

The first picture from top is sweet, sweet Kyle, he is picking out paper to start his project. The second picture is the jar frame in progess & last picture is the finished project.

Reupholstering a Desk Chair

Do you have an old desk chair that you are just not happy with? Well I did & now it's awesome. I had gotten this chair from my partner's parents. They are always giving me things that they don't want anymore & I can never say no & plus I needed another desk chair. First and for most I would like to apologize for the poor quality of these pictures. I used my cell phone camera & wasn't very organized when starting this project. I didn't take a pictures of the chair before I took it apart or the steps on how it got from point A to B, which I wanted to do when I intially started this project but got so excited I forgot. So please use your imagination in this post. Haha.

This is so easy to do. What you need to do is take the chair completely apart, as you can see in the picture above. Then you need to find a fabric that you would like to cover the chair with, I had old green bed sheets from a twin bed. But you could find a funky pattern fabric or even use towels with a graphic that you like, the options are endless.

Then you take the fabric of your choice & lay it flat on the floor, place the backside of the chair (where your back rests) on the fabric & cut around, making sure that there is enough fabric to fold over to tape or staple to the other side. Once the fabric cut, I couldn't find a stapler, (should have gathered all of my tools needed before starting but didn't, so unorganized with this project! haha), but I found that duck tape works just as well. I took the tape & followed it around the edges, making sure the fabric is pulled tight. This reminded me of wrapping the ends of a present, if you know what I am taking about, this is a great technique to use. Do the same thing to the bottom part of the chair (where your hynee rests). Make sure that before you put the chair back together you flip it over & make sure that the cushion looks good for your taste.

I was going to paint the hardware but decided against that. Another thing, remember what pieces go where when taking the chair apart & also make sure that you have a designated spot where all the hardware is put so that you don't loose any important screws or pieces. Haha. I lost a screw & looked all over for it for about an hour. Ugh, it was so frustrating. This project took me about a half hour minus looking for the lost screw.

So.... Valentines Day is creeping up on us, so I have been look at some ideas on what I am going to do for Valentines gifts/cards. I found this remarkable website. http://cfabbridesigns.com/blog/. This website has great ideas for that perfect Valentine. I will be taking some of these ideas & make them alittle bit more my taste. Post on those to come.
